Walden Albert Leecing
September 6, 1932 – January 26, 2010
Resident of Danville
OBITUARY

Walden (Wally) Leecing was born in Glendale, CA.  He lived in Santa Ana through his first year at Santa Ana Community College.  He then went to Occidental College for one year and transferred to the University of Redlands, where he graduated in 1954.  It was there he met his wife, Betty.  He completed his education with a Master’s Degree from Stanford University.  Wally taught drama full time at Santa Ana High School, a school he previously attended as a student.  In 1967, he began teaching English and Interpersonal Communication at Chabot College in Hayward, CA.  He had a happy, successful career until his retirement in 1988.

Over the years, Wally received numerous awards for his acting, directing and producing stage plays and musicals.  He co-authored an English textbook, The Curious Eye, which was once criticized in the South because it contained works by Joan Baez and Eldridge Cleaver;  however, the book was widely used and quite successful.  Wally’s career included playing the organ and piano for several churches, either as the main organist, or as a substitute.  He also accompanied various choral groups.  His love of music included listening to classical music and seeing musicals on the stage.  Wally was a member of the Danville Congregational Church for 43 years.  During that time he served on numerous commissions, especially assisting in the music and worship services.  Wally is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty; sons, Jeffrey (Lisa) and Brian (Laura);  grandsons, Tyler and Matthew;  sister Anabelle (Irv); and niece and nephew, Sarah and Jason and their families.  A service of celebration for Wally’s life will be held at 2pm, February 20 at the Danville Congregational Church, 989 San Ramon Valley Blvd., Danville, CA.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hope Hospice, 6377 Clark Ave., Suite 100, Dublin, CA or to the Danville Congregational Church Music Fund or to a charity of your choice.
